A Weekend Guide to Spring Lake, NJ
Spring Lake is one of those places where the whole point is slowing down. Victorian houses, a beautiful lake, two miles of pristine beach, and a dining and shopping scene that punches well above the town’s small size. Here’s how to spend a weekend here properly.
Friday Evening
Check In
The Grand Victorian or Spring Lake Inn if you want ocean proximity. Walden on the Pond if you want the lake view. All are walkable to everything.
Dinner
Whispers at the Hewitt Wellington for a proper fine dining evening – book ahead. Or Olea for a coastal-Mediterranean dinner with a great cocktail. Both are reservation situations, especially on summer Fridays.
After Dinner
Walk to St. Stephen’s Green for a drink and live music. This is what Friday in Spring Lake looks like.
Saturday
Morning
Coffee at Driftwood or Shore Pour. Walk the lake – the perimeter takes about 30-40 minutes and it’s genuinely one of the best things you can do in this town. Then breakfast at Marigold or Honey Berry Cafe before the beach crowds arrive.
Beach
Get your badge at the beach entrance. Settle in by 10 AM for the best spot. Spring Lake’s beach is wide and uncrowded relative to other Shore towns. Lifeguards on duty through the summer season. There’s no food on the beach so bring what you need.
Afternoon
Shower and walk Third Avenue. Start at Noon Designs for coffee and a browse. Work down to Faherty, Whimsicality, Artisan Spirit, and Waterlily. Stop at the Third Avenue Chocolate Shoppe on the way back. Hoffman’s for ice cream.
Saturday Dinner
Spring Lake Seafood for a casual seafood dinner with the raw bar. Or Arugula for something eclectic and BYOB – bring a good bottle. Both are the kind of place where you linger.
Saturday Night
Spring Lake Tap House for a game and a beer. St. Stephen’s Green if you want the pub atmosphere again. The town winds down early by design – that’s the whole appeal.
Sunday
Irish Brunch
St. Stephen’s Green runs a Sunday Irish brunch that’s worth planning around. The most distinctive brunch experience in Spring Lake. After that, a last walk through Divine Park before checkout.
Before You Leave
Grab something from the Scone Pony for the road. Pick up any shopping you skipped Saturday. The drive home along the Shore roads is better than the Garden State Parkway if you have time.
